Brown Pelican

Posted on by

I have photographed Brown Pelicans (Pelecanus occidentalis) in Texas, North Carolina, Florida, and Panama. In St. Petersburg, Florida, I photographed two ridiculously photogenic and compliant brown pelicans, a juvenile and an adult. I have also photographed the subspecies Pelecanus occidentalis urinator in the Galapagos Islands.

  1. thank you for posting the pictures. My wife and I visited Padre Island a few year ago. I fell in love with Pelicans. Well long story short I am a wood carver and the day has come when I can finally begin to carve one. I find your picture helpful for study. I have been looking at them for reference. I am not going to duplicate your picture. I needed something to help me so I can draw a head for a walking cane. I have a need for a walking cane these days so I decided that this would be a very good way to display a pelican. I already have one head done as a prototype. If you care to see let me know and I will send you an attachment picture of it.
